I was born and raised in Upstate New York in the snow belt. I'm not sure when my love of photography started. I only know that my brother brought me a camera for my high school graduation (Thanks, Jorge!), and I haven't looked back since. I've been writing for most of life. First it was letters to pen pals. Then it was school papers. When it came time to pick a career, I went with what felt like the most natural fit - the thing that took time, but didn't feel like work. I have lots of memories of childhood travel - airplanes, palm trees, and warm Caribbean waters. I was in my early twenties before I realized the ocean could be cold. Since then, I've learned I love travel. I mean, no one loves packing, travel delays, or the hits to the bank account, but it's so worth it when you get there. People ask me all the time where my favorite place to travel is. I just don't have one. I love many places for many different reasons. Part of my love of travel comes from my love of photography. I work full time in the corporate world, and I don't have the time I'd like to take pictures. Travel cures all that, and it's my preferred activity on any trip. So here we are. A blog, combining my three loves: photography, travel and writing. I was made for this. I'm not sure where we'll go, but I know where I've been. And soon you will too. I'll do my best to share some practical tips and things I've learned along the way.
Why Travel Pumpkin?
The truth is I had to pick a name and a lot of names are already taken. But there is some thought behind the name too. No matter where I go and how much I enjoy the trip, I'm always ready to come home. You might say I turn into a pumpkin on the way home. Also, there's a great movie line that makes me smile every time I think about it:
"I'm still hoping for you, pumpkin!"*
*Bonus points to anyone besides my sisters that can tell me what movie it's from. :)
